Poisson
Fish, fish and fish !

La boisson made in Malte, le Kinnie. Cette substance à base de quinquina et d’orange amère ce déguste frais. (sans alcool)

                         Back to School

It's a sunny day in beautiful island of Malta . The temperature once again mislead us into thinking will gonna take out our pelerinas and umbrellas.
Not an ordinary day for most of us .
Used to go to the beach or just go sighseeing , well not today .Eventhought summer is already over on the calendar ,today it becomes more legite.
Kids walking in line ,wearing all the same uniforms ,colourful and animated backpacks, some of them with flowers on their hands ,fresh new scrapbooks , the smell of pencils , the happiness and the dissapointment of a new day ,back to school.
It's a new day ,new start , new life in pursuing our dreams and priorities , it's a new beginning into reaching our goals but at the end of the day education is the key to succed in life . So no matter how hard or bad is the first day at school just remember when it all ends you will be a different person who will think about the first day at school with memories and gratitude .

For parents it will be another year of hard work to cope with the physical and financial pressures that are inevitable with children going through their educational phase. For educators it will be a challenging year of giving their best to our young people despite limited resources in certain schools. I wish all of these stakeholders success in their work in the knowledge that our prosperity depends on their efforts.

School doors reopen today for circa 30,000 students for primary and secondary level pupils whileover 20,000 students will commence or continue their studies in Higher Education institutions the following week.
Those starting school today will not only find schools well equipped with the latest technology but they will also find qualified and dedicated teachers welcoming them to the new scholastic year.

And then , for the rest of us who already finished school ,university and master degree , for those who work a normal job ,where if its a sunny day or rainy its the same thing , for us at Simon Mamo Real Estate its a new day hoping goals are reached , making people happy and gratefull, trying to preserve our leadership on the market .                                  Valletta

One of the most beautiful Mediterranean cities

Valletta is one of the most beautiful capital cities you can find in Europe, so rich of History and located between two continents. This city is a legacy of the past, filled with incredible stories. The city was built during the the XVIth Century and was the place where lived the knights of the Order of St. John.

That is the reason why Valletta was one of the most powerful strengths of the Mediterranean Basin. Valletta has not always been the Capital city of Malta, it used to be Mdina in the past.
Nowadays, the capital city is still one of the most attractive cities in Europe. The Grand Harbour is made up with a lot of bays and quays and fortifications. From these spots you can admire the trips of the ferries, the luzzus (those traditional little boats you can easy recognize with their bright colours) and yachts.

The easiest way to discover Valletta is by walk. Valletta is formed with little streets which allow pedestrians to walk in the shadow and in the same time to cool off a bit (which is not a luxury in summer !). And every street seems to end in the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea.
The city had a strong interest; it was rebuilt to face the Ottoman threat. You can also notice the British legacy in the streets with the red phone booths everywhere in the city. There are only 7000 inhabitants in the city but thousands of tourists, especially in summer.
There are a lot of museums you absolutely have to visit during your journey. For instance, there is the War museum which tells the story of how Malta resisted to the attacks of World War II and preserved all its treasures.

Among these treasures, you can find the St John’s Co Cathedral in the heart of Valletta. This is a baroque style cathedral which was built between 1573 and 1577 by the knights of Malta. One of the most beautiful in the world. There are a lot of nice gardens in Valletta: You have to stop at the Upper Barraca Gardens; this park was built above the fortifications in the South of the city and from this spot you can admire the harbour and the Three Cities.

Valletta is very mysterious, every street doesn’t look to the others, the city is very picturesque and that is what makes Valletta so special.

Heart of Sliema...

Sliema  and the coastline up to neighboring St Julian's constitutes Malta's main coastal resort. It is a centre for shopping, restaurants and cafe's life. Sliema is pronounced "sleeyma" and sometimes mistakenly pronounced "selima" by tourists. Sliema is also a major commercial and residential area and houses
Tower Road is its 5Km promenade, full of shops, restaurants, banks, supermarkets, Internet cafes, and day cruise boats. The road continues north to St. Julians and Paceville and southward towards the Strand Gzira, Ta Xbiex , Msida and Valletta.

Sliema, coming from the word Sliem ,meaning `peace', was once a fishing town on the peninsula across Grand Harbor from Valletta. The town began to develop rapidly in the early 20th century as a summer resort for wealthier Valletta residents. Their elegant villas and town houses line the quiet, inland streets.

The Sliema promontory offers on one side stunning views across to Valletta and on the other, open sea views. The promenade, which runs for several kilometers from Gzira just south of Sliema to St Julian's, is ideal for walker and joggers. There are plenty of seats along the promenade and on summer evenings the seafront becomes a sociable meeting place for locals.
The coastline has two tower fortifications: a De Redin watch tower built in the 17th century; the other was built by the British in neo-gothic style in the 1880s.  Nearby  Valletta with its historic attractions and corporate importance is also very close the area is considered to be most central on the island.

Sliema, once a fishing town, began to develop in the early 20th century as small resort for wealthier Valletta residents. Their elegant villas and town houses line the quieter back streets. The sea front from Gzira to St Julian's, which offers first stunning views across to Valletta and then open horizons, is a popular meeting place and ideal for walkers and joggers.
St Julian's and Paceville are Malta's main nightlife areas. Picturesque St Julian's Bay, still used by fishermen, is lined with bougainvillea-clad cafés and restaurants.

The top places to visit in Sliema are the Mediterraneo Marine Park where you can enjoy a day swimming with dolpfhins

Teatru Salesjan:
Now, 105 years after the official opening of the theatre is redefining its identity.

The Teatru Salesjan is now operating as a cultural hub, opening its doors to new artists who need an affordable space in which to work and enhance their work. In doing so, the theatre would re-establish itself as a ‘home’, ‘school’ and ‘playground’ for creative work to flourish and for artists and audiences to become direct protagonists of culture.

Another kids friendly plays for both parents and children is the Playzone :

-A clean, unbroken play area with happy children and friendly parents. It felt almost like a social gathering of families. Language was no barrier, many diferent nationalities played together happily.

The Beach:
Sliema has no sand beaches, though in Malta
any stretch of waterfront that gives access to the sea is termed 'beach'. On Tower Road, in front of the Preluna Hotel, a broad expanse of large smooth sandstone rock slabs bordering the sea becomes a summer 'beach' with metal handrails (set into the rocks) giving safe access for bathers. Alternative swimming and sunbathing is offered by a number of seafront lidos, both on Tower Road and on the point of the peninsula, known as Qui-Si-Sana. There are neither beaches nor lidos on the Sliema Ferries/Strand side.

Culture of Malta 'The Three Cities'

The three fortified towns, Vittoriosa, Senglea and Cospicua also known as the COTTONERA takes their name from Grand Master Cottoner (1663-1680) who commissioned, at his own expense, the extensive lines of these fortifications of what is also known as the Three Cities. The latter name was a term used during the French Occupation (1798-1800) when Napoleon decreed that Malta should be divided into a number of administrative units.

The oldest of the three is Vittoriosa (Birgu). In 1530, The order of St. John established its Headquarters in what was still a small village known as Borgo del Castello. The Knights who were aware of the imminent strikes by the Turks began to strengthen forts fortifications particularly those of Fort St. Angelo.

Cospicua, which is the largest of the three, earned its name because of its conspicuous role in the 1565 siege. Most of its shoreline is taken by Malta's largest industrial enterprise, the Drydocks. The chief monumental building in this city is undoubtedly the church of the Immaculate Conception. It is not only rich in treasure but also an exquisite work of art.

The small city of Senglea stands on the narrow promontory, which protrudes into Grand Harbour between two creeks. L Isla, as preferred by the Maltese means 'The Island'. Fort St. Michael protected Senglea on its landward side with Fort St. Angelo on its eastern flank. The Unconquered City, during the 1565 siege was given the title of CITTA INVICTA by Grand Master La Vallette. Built in 1743 and nearly destroyed during the Second World War, the Collegiate Church of Our Lady of Victories houses the statue of the Bambina, which represents the nativity of Our Lady.

Behind these thick impenetrable walls lie functioning cities and towns. Some of the most famous are the towns known as the Three Cities which lie around the Grand Harbor perimeter.
Today they are a neighborhood full of homes and families intermixed with historical buiildings and fortresses all flanked by an upscale yacht harbor. The area is in a constant state of revitalization as old ship warehouses and fortifications are changed into modern housing with a historical touch. These are the up and coming neighborhoods of Malta and will most likely transform extensively in the next 5 years.
I suggest you start in the morning and walk around the hilly streets of Senglea going down winding alleys and roads, interacting with the locals, poke your head into churches, stepping into the Band Clubs for a refreshment. Go through Cospicua and then go to Vittoriosa and stroll along the docks and view the massive yachts and grab lunch outside by the water at one of the many new restaurants serving the yachting crowd. Stop by the old men on the corner who are offering boat taxi rides and tours around he harbor for a small price and get a different perspective.  Then stroll up to see the Inquisitors palace or other museums making a day of the slow, simple life in the modern day Three Cities of Malta.

Take your time and book a full weekend to visit this amazing place or come for the summer and enjoy our amazing island of Malta . In both cases make your accomodation feels just like home ,that's why don't hesitate to contact  the best real estate in Malta .

A Slice of Summer...

What if 7,000 years of intriguing history, superbly sunny days and endless beaches would challenge you to experience the taste of one of the top summer destinations in the world, the Maltese archipelago .
Malta, Gozo and Comino are the three islands that make this fairytale archipelago an unique travel destination from summer to summer.

From the thriving nightlife, to the cultural and traditional side tourists from all over the world come to spend their summer in search for the perfect holiday.

Landing in Malta either by airplane or by ferry from the beautiful and historical Sicily, the trip itself is an authentic experience. From the first breath you take, the humidity that you will love to hate, the high rocks that surround the entire archipelago will make your stay even mystical.
Whilst Malta has always been a renowned tourist destination, the number of tourists is still growing.

Figures show it has increased by over 16 per cent over the past five years, with records reached across the board. Tourist arrivals reached 1.44 million in 2012 compared to 2007’s 1.24 million. Most of the success is attributed to an increase in scheduled air routes, from 57 in 2007 to 81 in 2012.
Malta's former minister of tourism Mario de Marco was recently quoted as saying “Airlines are coming to us to open new routes rather than us having to go to them…one of the reasons for this success in tourism is the investment in embellishing the product, ranging from upgraded beaches to Valletta’s entire facelift”.

So is Malta prepared for a boom for tourism?

Of course it is, and will always be! Tourists even come for a city break weekend just to enjoy the old city of Mdina or the cultural and fancy life of Valletta and the historical three cities.

Many book long holiday packages for the entire summer.Although hoteliers often complain that tourism records do not trickle down to their pockets, Dr de Marco showed how expenditure, performance and occupancy rates had all hit records. Expenditure on directly booked accommodation last year increased by €61.8 million compared to 2007 and other spending grew by €143 million.

On the other hand, in the past years tourists have shown they prefer to rent apartments in Malta rather than book with hotels. So are we facing a Hotel vs. Letting Property Issue?
We think yes! Just think about all the advantages of renting you own place for your stay in Malta. Lazy and cozy days where you can relax by your own private pool, yard or even garden, noise and traffic free! The option of cooking your own healthy and tasty meals in your own kitchen facing spectacular sea views of the Mediterranean Sea. Everything is easy nowadays and for sure tourists search for the best offers out there. Easy, cheap and comfortable, rent your own piece of heaven for the summer. The variety is plenty: from day to day rentals to short or long lets, you can find a solution for every pocket and situation.

Call it a night just after you make sure you got that perfect , glittery sun tan from the breath taking beaches in Malta – to name just a few: Golden Bay, Riviera Bay, Paradise Bay and none other than Comino and the amazing Blue Lagoon.

Before you choose how to spend the last slice of summer, just don’t forget Malta - we’ll make it easy for you!

Easy, cozy and for every pocket and personality Simon Mamo Real Estate the leading Property Agency in Malta will set you up with your dream summer vacation.
